Privacy policy
This page explains what data GTAGuessr processes, why, for how long, and how you can view or delete it. Last updated: October 21, 2026.
Who is responsible?
GTAGuessr is published by an independent developer. Contact: contact@gtaguessr.ch.
Data we process
- Anonymous identifier: on your first visit an anonymous account is created automatically (a random identifier, with no name or email) so that players can be told apart.
- Optional account: if you create one, your email address and nickname are stored (Firebase authentication).
- Games and scores: nickname, score, the positions you placed and the places played. They feed the public leaderboards and your personal history.
- Multiplayer rooms: nickname, positions and chat messages, deleted after a few days at most.
- Technical connection: your IP address is processed by the host to serve the site. GTAGuessr only keeps an irreversible fingerprint of it, used to limit abuse (number of games per hour) and to keep cheaters out.
- Presence: while you play, your browser signals that it is there (the nickname you typed, the screen shown) so that online players can be counted; this information expires after a few minutes.
- Error reports: when the site hits an error, the message, the page and the browser used are recorded so bugs can be fixed.
- Visit statistics: cookie-free audience measurement (Vercel Web Analytics).
- Usage statistics: per day, the number of games, the page language and the site you came from (its name only), with no link to your identity.
- Public profile (optional): if you turn it on, your nickname, statistics, badges and the places you played are visible at your profile address. Never your e-mail or where you put your pins. You can turn it off at any time.
Local storage and cookies
The game saves in your browser (local storage) your language, your last nickname, your game options, the timer sound setting and the list of places already seen. This data stays on your device. The Google services described below may set cookies.
Advertising (Google AdSense)
The site may show ads through Google AdSense, on its information pages (guide, districts, statistics, FAQ, about) and never during a game. Google and its partners may use cookies or identifiers to serve ads and measure how well they work. In the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland, a consent message lets you accept or refuse personalized ads.
You can also manage personalized ads at adssettings.google.com and read how Google uses data at policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites.
Third-party services
- Google Firebase: authentication and database, hosted by Google.
- Vercel: site hosting and cookie-free audience measurement.
- Google AdSense: advertising.
How long data is kept
- Games in progress and room results: a few days.
- Personal history and account: until the account is deleted.
- Scores published on a leaderboard: kept, and removed on request.
- Online presence: a few minutes. Rate-limit counters: a few hours.
- Error reports: until the problem is fixed.
Your rights
You can view your history in the game and delete your account from the account page: this erases your profile and history and frees your nickname. You can also ask for a published score to be removed or for access to the data that concerns you by writing to contact@gtaguessr.ch. If you are in Switzerland or the European Union, you have the rights of access, rectification, erasure, objection and portability.
Children
The site is not aimed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect their data.
