Frequently asked questions

Everything you need to know about GTAGuessr, the GeoGuessr game for GTA V.

What is GTAGuessr?

A free browser game inspired by GeoGuessr, set on the GTA V map: you see a place in a 360° view and have to find it on the map of Los Santos and Blaine County.

Is it free? Do I need an account?

The game is free and you can play without an account. A free account reserves your nickname and keeps your history and badges on all your devices.

How are points calculated?

Each round is worth up to 5,000 points depending on the distance between your pin and the real location: the closer you are, the more you score. A 5-round game is therefore worth 25,000 points at most.

Can I play with friends?

Yes: multiplayer lets you create a room, share its 4-character code and play the same places together, with a chat. The daily challenge also gives every player the same places.

Is there a night mode?

Yes. Part of the map was captured at night: you can play by day, by night or with both mixed, in the city, the countryside or on the whole map.

How does the daily challenge work?

Every day the same 5 places are offered to everyone, with 30 seconds per round and a single attempt. A daily leaderboard compares scores.

How is it different from GeoGuessr?

GeoGuessr uses real street photos from around the world. GTAGuessr applies the same idea to the world of GTA V, with 360° views captured in the game. The two projects are not related.

Which devices can I play on?

On desktop, tablet and mobile, straight in the browser. You can also add the game to your phone’s home screen to launch it like an app.

Is GTAGuessr affiliated with Rockstar Games?

No. It is an independent fan project: Grand Theft Auto is a trademark of Take-Two Interactive and Rockstar Games.

A place looks wrong, what can I do?

During a game, the “Report this place” button tells the team, who then check the position and the image.
