About GTAGuessr

GTAGuessr is a free game made by an independent developer who loves GTA V and GeoGuessr, to test your knowledge of Los Santos and Blaine County.

The project

The idea: take the principle of GeoGuessr into a video game world that millions of players know by heart. The game runs in the browser, on desktop and mobile, with nothing to install and no account required, in French, English, German, Spanish, Italian, Russian, Japanese and Chinese.

Where do the images come from?

Every place is a 360° panorama captured in GTA V: several shots taken from the same point are stitched into a single image, then checked one by one (sharpness, seams, stray elements). The capture points are spread out to cover the whole map, cities, countryside, coasts, mountains and islands, by day and by night. There are now over 600 places, and new ones are added regularly.

Fair leaderboards

Points are computed by the server from the position you send, never by your browser. Unusual scores are reviewed by hand before they appear on a leaderboard, and accounts that cheat are removed.

Free, so how is it funded?

Playing is free. The site may show ads on its information pages, never during a game, to cover its hosting costs; the privacy policy explains what that means for your data.

An independent fan project

Grand Theft Auto is a trademark of Take-Two Interactive and Rockstar Games, GeoGuessr a trademark of GeoGuessr AB. GTAGuessr has no connection or partnership with them.

A misplaced location or a faulty image? During a game, the “Report this place” button alerts the team, who check every report. Contact: contact@gtaguessr.ch.
